Dr. Small graduated in 1979 from WV Wesleyan College with a BSN. In 1985, she completed a Masters of Science in Nursing at West Virginia University. Her doctorate in Higher Educational Leadership Studies was completed at West Virginia Univeristy in May 2002. The majority of Dr. Small's clinical experience is in medical-surgical nursing, home health and psych-mental health. She currently teaches Intro to Nursing at the freshman level, med-surg nursing at the junior level, and advanced critical thinking at the senior level. She has also taught in the RN-BSN program and will teach in the MSN program in the future.

Dr. Small attends numerous conferences to stay current in her areas of expertise. In addition, she has presented her research at a national conference in November 2003.
